It is located at the passenger's side of the intake manifold. The Engine Temperature Sensor is a negative temperature co-efficient thermistor. The greater the temperature the lower the resistance. The sensor is exposed to coolant and heat from the coolant will cause the sensor to change resistance. If the ECM reads no voltage change in the

So although you have improved its properties it may still be a weak mix. 50/50 would require just over 5 litres. MK4.5 TDCI 140 Business Estate. .
Therefore, a high resistance reading of the engine coolant temperature sensor would indicate a low temperature. When the sensor consistently read a less than freezing temperature despite the engine running, the Powertrain control module sets the P0118 code. The code can also be triggered if the sensor is transmitting a resistance that is out of

First, locate the coolant temperature switch and unplug it. But, be sure you have the right one. Because, some vehicles have as many as three: One for a, dashboard warning light. Or an, overhead console. One for the (PCM). So, with the engine running and the coolant temperature switch unplugged, the fan should come on.
Yep, there's another one in the head (see pic). Also worth noting however..you sometimes get those codes throwing up, maybe along with 'poor coolant flow' or somesuch, when something is acting up in the waterpump/thermostat housing (had them once every couple of months or so on our 2015 1.8Tsi, replaced wpump/tstat housing, all is now well).
